"When a measure becomes
a target, it ceases to be a
good measure."
-Charles Goodhart
Hi, I’m Shneur.
Yes, that’s my real name.
No, I was not consulted on the matter.
In second grade, my favorite teacher, Ms. Saul, told me I should go into advertising. I had absolutely no idea what advertising was, but 20 years later, I have to admit she was onto something.
At 19, I found myself at a bit of a crossroads. I had finished my associate degree, logged 140+ clinical hours, & become a New York City–licensed EMT. The logical next step was to pursue the medical career everyone expected of me. But I knew I wanted to do something else. So I listened to the voice that had been stuck in my head since second grade, pivoted into advertising, & haven’t looked back since.
It probably shouldn’t be surprising that my path into strategy hasn’t exactly been
linear. I’ve worked across account management, media, communications, & brand strategy, with experience spanning healthcare, technology, CPG, insurance, & beyond. I’ve also spent a fair amount of time outside the office, backpacking across Europe, India, Central America, & Latin America. Both experiences taught me the same thing: perspective matters.
Today, I’m a strategist at The Martin Agency, where I help brands solve business problems by understanding people, culture, and the spaces where the two intersect. Over the past seven years, I’ve worked across communications, brand, social, & media strategy, helping turn human insights into ideas that move businesses &, ideally, make people feel something along the way.
I’m endlessly curious, probably ask too many questions, & genuinely believe the best strategy starts with getting to know people rather than simply looking at the numbers describing them.
& while I’m proud of the work that has made its way into case studies, awards, & pitch decks, I’m just as proud of the people I’ve helped along the way. I love mentoring younger strategists, bringing different disciplines together, & creating the kind of environment where smart people can do their best work.
So, that’s me. A strategist by trade, a curious person by nature, &, 20 years later, still trying to prove Ms. Saul right.
